The Common & Recent Bogey Golf Club

Standing Rules

Adopted under Article VII of the Bylaws of The Common & Recent Bogey Golf Club. These rules may be adopted, amended, or rescinded by a majority vote of the Members in Good Standing at any meeting. No Standing Rule may conflict with the Bylaws; in any conflict, the Bylaws control.

Rules of Play

  1. The 84 Standard. Members shall consider all courses playable to an 84, regardless of actual difficulty.
  2. Zen Juice Protocol. Consumption of scotch whisky from a flask is permitted and encouraged, particularly after a poor shot.
  3. Dew Sweeper Priority. A Member first off the tee shall hold bragging rights for the rest of that day.
  4. Gallery Rule. Any shot witnessed by a Gallery shall be deemed to have improved by one stroke category.

Course Etiquette

  1. Pace of Play. Slow play is acceptable with good conversation.
  2. Lost Ball Protocol. After a Reasonable Search, a Member shall drop a ball and play on.

Scoring & Handicaps

  1. Honor System. All scores shall be reported on the honor system.
  2. No Handicap Index. The Club shall not maintain a handicap index for any Member.

Annual Traditions

  1. Founders’ Day. Annual tribute to Mark Ayers and Dean Chase’s founding vision.
  2. Dew Sweeper Championship. Annual tournament for the truly dedicated, contested at sunrise near the summer solstice.
  3. Zen Juice Appreciation Day. Annual celebration of the medicinal properties of course-side scotch.

It’s not about the score you post but the stories you tell.

Glossary

84: the theoretical perfect score for any C&R Member on any course, regardless of par or actual ability.
Dew Sweeper: one who enjoys an earlier morning round of golf, generally first off the tee.
Gallery: any witness to a golf shot, whose presence automatically improves the quality of said shot.
Golf: a walk on a nice lawn with friends.
Reasonable Search: the amount of time spent looking for a lost ball before someone suggests it’s time to move on.
Zen Juice: scotch whisky drunk from a flask while golfing, particularly when taken after a poor stroke.
